Our wonderful craft beer fans — like you — helped to empty out a few kegs on Friday night, so there’s a new lineup for Saturday. We welcome a new brew and get ready to say farewell to another, albeit for just a little while.
New on Saturday
Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelion’s single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Río Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Río Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lover’s beer through and through.
Biere de Chocolat balances the sweet and savory characteristics of chocolate to create a robust ale that pairs well with a variety of dishes. Serve with Texas style BBQ brisket to bring out the subtle smoked-malt flavors or show off chocolate’s savory side with a classic Mexican chicken mole. This beer loves dessert, too: pair simply with pieces of Dandelion’s Single Origin Chocolate bars to compare and contrast the tastable terroir of their different single-source beans.We’re looking forward to Sunday night and our Walking Dead Watch Party and Pot Luck so we can try this beer with some BBQ!
Getting Ready to Leave the Taps
About a week ago we tapped a new beer that many of you hadn’t heard of, and some thought it was our own blend (it’s not): Winter Wookey from Firestone Walker Brewing. This is a delicious blended strong ale at 10.9%.
Our newest blended strong ale, Winter Wookey, comes just in time for the California winter this year. A blend of Wookey Jack and un-oaked Double DBA, Winter Wookey brings dark chocolate covered dried cherry, candied apple, orange zest and toffee flabors together in a complex, warming blend. Deceivingly drinable for its size, Winter Wookey balances a big, malty body with a complementary spectrum of hop aroma and bitterness.We’ll be pulling this off the tap at the end of the day Saturday. Don’t worry, we’ll bring it back after it’s aged a little bit and we’ll give you another chance at it. We’ll also be putting something big and delicious in it’s place.
