Claymore Scotch Ale handle labelGreat Divide — Claymore Scotch Ale

Yesterday’s Mystery Beer comes to us from Great Divide Brewing Co. in Denver, CO. We’ve had several of their delicious craft beers on tap here in the past — Yeti Imperial Stout, Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti, Hercules IPA, & Titan IPA which was itself a Mystery Beer — but this is the first time that Claymore graced its presence on our taps!

This beer, with its malty caramel aroma, reddish-brown color, and delicious flavor with hints of raisins, chocolate and smoke has a abv of 7.7%, putting it in the “Wee Heavy” category of Scotch Ales. (Despite what you might think… or hope… no scotch is used in making a scotch ale! Hurry in for a pint before the keg runs dry!

From the Great Divide Brewing Co website:

Named for a medieval Scottish sword, CLAYMORE SCOTCH ALE is our tribute to the legendary “Wee Heavy” beers of Scotland. This malty, deep-ruby beauty features lots of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile, and a subtle warming character. Unlike its namesake, this beer only requires one hand, but it’ll still make you feel like nobility.
