The Mystery Beer yesterday comes to us from a brewery that we had the pleasure of discovering this past summer and we’ve been bringing their beers here so that those of us in Ventura County and the Central Coast can enjoy them on tap! The Mystery Beer though was one that we hadn’t had on tap it.
Yesterday’s Mystery Beer was…
Standard Crude American Imperial Stout
El Segundo Brewing Co.
From their website:
ABV – 10.2%, IBU – 54, SRM – 48.1
An American Imperial Stout..since, why should the Russians get all the recognition! All malted barley with just a sprinkling of oats for texture. This beer is roasty throughout with many deep undertones of blackberry, cassis, tobacco and leather. The layers of malt reveal themselves one by one as the beer changs in the glass. Take your time with this one. Enjoy now, or lay it down in your cellar for a few years!
Availability – Brewed once a year in December. Look for it at our taproom, in bottles or a select few beer bars.(ed. like ours!)
We’re not sure if the name is an homage to the oil refinery located just down the street from the brewery, or just a reference to the darkness and thickness of the brew itself. Either way, come and enjoy a few sips of this tasty, roast, Imperial Stout today. Like most of their beers that we’ve had one tap, we don’t expect the keg to last long!
