Deception isn’t necessarily a good thing. When it comes to each week’s Tuesday Mystery Beer though, we typically don’t reveal it’s identity until the following day. This means that if you ask your beertender if the beer is X and it is, then we have to lie to you and say “No”. So to the two of you that questioned if yesterday’s Mystery Beer was Aurora from Modern Times . . . sorry we had to lie to you.
Modern Times is located in the Point Loma area of San Diego where their 30 barrel brewery has been pumping out beer for just over a year now, serving it in their tasting room and shipping it throughout Southern California, including here!
Aurora is from Modern Times’s season lineup. It visually presents as a red ale, but has the taste that qualifies it as a delicious red IPA featuring a variety of hops you may not normally see.
From their website:

Aurora is a 6.8% ABV red rye IPA loaded with Equinox, Centennial, Motueka, and Experimental Hop 07270. This pungent, complex IPA marries the spicy malt character of rye with the fruity dankness of new wave American & New Zealand hops. Aurora pours a gorgeous ruby red, making it the perfect IPA for Fall (if it ever comes to San Diego).
Whether you’re a fan of reds or a fan of IPAs, stop in soon for a pour of this wonderfully red beer before it’s gone!
