Tuesday Mystery Beer
This week’s Mystery Beer is a Double IPA from a Los Angeles area brewery. The brewer combined Galaxy and Citra hops for a bright and fruit-forward beer with a resinous finish. I tried a pint of it last night and immediately wanted another, but at 9%+ abv better be careful! (Actual abv and ibu are listed in the pub.) I’ve carried brews from this brewery on tap and they’ve all been well received, but I’ve never had this particular brew before last night, even at the brewery. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Today, Tuesday September 29th is National Coffee Day; a day to celebrate that dark, roasted beverage that gets many of us going in the morning. But there’s no reason to limit yourself to coffee in the am, so we’ve got a couple of coffee beers on tap today, and in celebration of the day they’re $1 off pints.
Smog City Coffee Porter
A coffee-beer, rather than a beer with coffee. A robust porter aged on fresh locally roasted, fair trade ground coffee. Enhanced flavors of chocolate, roasted malt, and of course coffee are present. “Like a chocolate covered espresso bean.”
Stone Coffee Milk Stout
From imperial stouts to IPAs, we’ve discovered the tantalizingly roasty lift that comes from adding coffee beans to just about any kind of beer. This English-style milk stout, originally a limited-edition offering at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens Liberty Station, proved the perfect foil for beans from San Diego-based Ryan Bros Coffee. The bitterness of the coffee is balanced out brilliantly by the milk sugar we used to add a touch of sweetness and creaminess to the stouts smooth, easy-drinking texture. Cheers to the coalescence of two highly artisanal (and delectable) mediums.
See you later today!
